A Bride For Lord Esher – A SALUTE TO REVIEWERS #asmsg #erotica #romance

Well, its been a week, and the first reviews for my new book, A Bride For Lord Esher, are up. I’m delighted with the feedback.

A Bride for Lord Esher

If you’ve written a book, you’ll know how frightening that moment is, when you first release your creation into the world, waiting to see how it will be received. Picture the scene in the movie, Shakespeare in Love, when the curtain closes on the first performance of Romeo and Juliet. For a brief moment, a hush fell over the theatre as the audience fell silent. In that moment, the actors felt true horror, not knowing whether their efforts would reap rapturous applause, or be met with hisses and rotten tomatoes. But then the applause came, and every actor on the stage exhaled with tremendous relief.

Well, that’s been me. All this week. But it was worth it; the reviews are sparkly and it seems I had nothing to worry about. Thank God!

I don’t know who posts them; I’m not one of those writers that solicit reviews at gunpoint (though I suspect my publisher secretly wishes I was.) But it warms my soul to think there are people out there who take the time to give feedback, good or bad. Perhaps the writers among us do it without a moment’s thought, but for the rest of the busy world, it’s not something readers always do.  I’ve been guilty of this myself in the past, buying a book, reading it, moving on to the next, not sharing how I felt about it. But I’m glad the world is populated with people more considerate than I am.

So, to the wonderful readers, who took the time out of their hectic schedules to share their thoughts on my work; –  I SALUTE YOU. Thank you, very much!

Collage A~Trois! Well, Not Really (Giggles) #asmsg

All my characters

Since I’m in the company of artists, it’s probably no surprise to you how much work goes into the creation of a single drawing, or a single story. Like most writers I post little teasers from time to time, yet always with a touch of sadness as it means earlier work gets pushed forever deeper into the archived belly of this blog.

So today, for grins and giggles, and as a little light relief from the edits to “Kiss of the Marquis,” I made a collage of my prior illustrative works. Since inevitably, sooner or later, it too will be consumed in the history bowels, I’ve used it as the background for my twitter profile, and plan to update it as a wall of naughty infamy to display new works and cover art.  I hope you like it – looks like a super mouse mat to me!

Blessings, break over, time to get back to polishing the new novella.

Regards,

Sparkly.

Meet ‘Drench The Wench’ Characters – Cindy Buttsplash, Brandy and my favorite, Whipgood. #ASMSG

Characters from 'Drench The Wench'

Characters from ‘Drench The Wench’

I’d love to introduce some of the characters in my newly released “Drench The Wench” written by me, P J Perryman, and published by Blushing Books.  You can read more about Cindy in the story sample, listed beneath this post. To find out more about the others, please buy a copy at the Blushing Books website. Amazon, Barnes & Noble and other goodly e-book retailers should list this shortly.

I so hope you enjoy reading as much as I enjoyed writing them.  All my characters are original – you won’t find anything like them anywhere else!  I’d love to hear your thoughts on this page, or to really help me promote this awesome book, write a review on the Blushing wesbsite or in Goodreads or other such bubbly places.  Fans of “The Man Spell’ will not be disappointed (nudge, nudge, wink wink.)  For now, lots of love and sparkly wishes to my dear readers,

Sparkly.

SELLING YOUR EROTICA (and all things writey) #asmsg

It starts like this. Your mother passed on her writing genes, so one frosty morning, sick of your tedious, underpaid, under-valued day job, you decide you’re going to be a writer. “Sod it, I can do better than 50 shades of whatever.” Those writey genes kick in and you sit at your desk, and with a grand push, pop out a fair piece of work. Voila – you did it – you’re a writer. You think the hard part is done. Well, bad news my friend. The hard part lies ahead.

You write to a zillion agents to represent your book. Like evil Disney queens they scoff at your feeble masterpiece, and shoo you away with form reject letters that would subdue the spirit of Attila the Hun. Humbled by your own unworthiness, you wander chat rooms and other media sites, seeking truth and wisdom. Before you know it, you’re blogging, giving away freebies, twittering your ass off and through contacts, you eventually find a venue for your book.

At first you sell a few copies to friends, but then the book stalls and nada. Nothing. Tiddly squat. So you ramp up the blogging and twittering until suddenly, these giants take over and you’re at it twenty-four hours a day. And still the book doesn’t sell.

What do you do? Pay a fortune in marketing? Buy a billboard and stalk the shopping malls? (Good luck with that.)

Well, this is me, right now, and all roads of wisdom seem to point in the same direction. The best way to promote your book is to simply write another one. Make a name for yourself. One book will help sell another. Then write another. And get reviews. Good ones. Genuine reviews sell books more than you know. For obvious reasons many readers shy away from an un-reviewed book.

The reality is, this business is not the sparkly, overnight success story we dreamed of, and like good sex, the hard truth is that these things take time. Overnight successes are rare, and what we often see as an overnight success probably took that poor bugger years to achieve.

Trust me, I’m not saying don’t blog and don’t twitter, networking is super important and the social media tools are an invaluable asset. I have made some wonderful friends and contacts through these channels and my knowledge of the business grows because of them. I salute you guys. But do exercise judgement. Balance is everything in all things on this sparkly earth.

So for heaven’s sake – set aside time in your daily doings to write. That was your dream wasn’t it? Don’t put it to bed. Show the world your stuff. Nothing will ever promote you more than your own words in your own special voice. Remember to use it.

Love, Sparkly.
(PS – yes, I see the irony in writing a blog about this ;))

A Very Sexy New Year

Franny Barrel2

The shape of things, still to come…

Well here we are in 2013 and once again I find myself, bent over a barrel. Life is good. With a little diligence I’m hoping to pop a new story out every two weeks. For the record, I totally love the character of Franny and hope to share many of her adventures in the weeks to, ummm, come. For now, a very happy New Year to all my followers. May much sexiness fill your lives and play-time parts.

Best wishes, Sparkly Knickers.
